Sometimes, pictures are more effective than words at conveying the scope of a natural disaster. Facts and figures can describe the damages caused by eruptions such as that of Puyuhue in Chile this year, but a chart often fails to bring to mind words such as "apocalyptic", "fearsome", or "divine wrath".
